Beavers return to Essex after 700 years

Eurasian beaver feeding in Essex
Beaver feeding by Russell Savory

A pair of young beavers has been released into an enclosed 4 ha woodland in north Essex as part of a natural flood management trial for the village of Finchingfield. Within 10 days they had created two dams with deep water pools and Environment Agency monitoring stations were showing changes to dissolved oxygen and siltation. I'll be continuing to monitor progress as part of my work for Essex Wildlife Trust and will keep CNHS members updated.
