New Status Will Help Save Middlewick Ranges

Last week, Middlewick Ranges was given a new status as an 'Asset of Community Value' (ACV) by Colchester Council.

For those of you who are not aware, CNHS has been working closely with The Friends of Middlewick for many years to try and ensure this rare patch of acid grassland and wildlife haven is saved from development. It was put up for sale for development after the MOD hired a wildlife survey that claimed that the area was suitable for destruction, despite red listed species living there, and their existence being evident to even passive observers.

This is a huge step forward in protecting this beloved natural space. Being listed as an ACV means the community now has a stronger voice and greater rights when it comes to safeguarding Middlewick from unwanted development. The fight is still not over, but this new status will make the fight a lot easier.

As shown in the map on this post, the red area is excluded, as this hasn't been accessible to the general public in 15 years.

This wouldn't have been possible if it were not for the outspoken and passionate work of the Save the Wick campaign and for the general public for their loud support of the Middlewick Ranges.
