About the event
Stour Wood is an ancient Sweet Chestnut Wood with a long history of coppice management. It holds a wide range of plant species and is rich in invertebrates. Along with neighbouring RSPB Copperas Bay it forms a significant nature reserve on the south (Essex) side of the Stour Estuary. We will look at all aspects of  the natural history of the site, including any birds to be found on the mudflats of Copperas Bay. The woodland rides are well known for their White Admiral and Silver-washed Fritillary butterflies.
Meet at 10am in the prominently signed Stour Estuary NR car park by the B1352 half a mile east of Wrabness. Stout footwear will be adequate. There are no toilets or other facilities. The 103 bus to Harwich from Colchester will drop you off at the car park entrance. Please book on 01206 399059.
