About the event

Sunday 16 July – Middlewick Ranges Local Wildlife Site.  A Grassland and Scrubland Wildlife Walk – 2pm till 4pm.  Led by Dougal Urquhart. Contact Dougal on 07494 866157 to book a place.

Meet at the army post on the Mersea Road – TM005229 [What3Words hidden.oiled.mouth]. Park in Queen Elizabeth Way on the opposite side of the road. The location is on a bus route, stout footwear will be adequate and note that no toilets are on site.

Join Dougal on an exploration of this rich grassland site on the south side of Colchester, still owned by the MOD but threatened with development. This is an opportunity for CNHS members to see the site that has been in the news for themselves. It has a mix of acid grassland, gorse and broom scrub, some relict heath, thick hedgerows as well as some small wooded areas. The area is noted for its invertebrates which we will be looking out for, as well as the birds, admiring the flora and anything else that catches our eyes.
