About the event

In the media, advertising and children’s literature ‘bees’ means honeybees – and they are often misrepresented as stripy bumblebees. But in recent years concern about loss of pollinating insects has revealed how important and fascinating are our 230 or so species of ‘other’ bees – the solitary bees. These include leafcutters, wool-carders, miners, masons and plasterers – the crafts people of the insect world!

Our president, Ted Benton and eminent Norfolk naturalist, Nick Owens, have spent the last 5 years working on a major book about these Solitary Bees for the New Naturalist series. They will present some of their findings, and show some video clips of the behaviour and ecology of these amazing creatures.
