About the event
Meet at 9.30am in the garden of 54 South Street or at 23 Colchester Road when we will open the moth traps whose lamps have been on overnight. We will go through the catch together and identify the different species. There will be cover to protect against possible rain. At this time of year we could get up to 100 species - hopefully some large hawkmoths, some superbly camouflaged noctuids, some colourful tigers, some other insects - and always some surprises. Notes about their life histories, their crucial position in the food web, how they avoid predation, and their food plants - so you can encourage them in your own gardens. It will take an hour or more to go through the catch - then a short walk will take you to the second garden to see their catch. Which will win the Moth Off?
